Allen Newland

We are fortunate to have Allen Newland on the Board of DSAR. A little of Allen's background:

  • Married 28 years

  • Flying RC aircraft (before they were called drones) for 4 decades including trainer aircraft, seaplanes, complex/stunt aircraft, jets, helicopters and of course multirotor aircraft. Started in 1974 flying control-line and single channel Non-Proportional R/C.

  • Flying MultiRotor’s commercially for several years

  • Experienced as R/C flight instructor for our local flying club (MASH) since late 80’s.

  • Teaches sUAS Operations and Flight Safety to Law Enforcement, First Responders, and Public Safety in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

  • Teaches at Haywood Community College (Ethical, safe, and legal drone flight)

  • Currently teaches private one-on-one sUAS Flight Instruction and Ethical Flight Practices with sUAS

  • Member in good standing with the AMA (Academy of Model Aircraft ) for almost 20 years now

  • Obtained his Private Pilot’s License in 1998 (Single Engine Land SEL)

  • Currently hold Part 107 Credentials

  • Contracted with local EMS/Law Enforcement as sUAS Operator/Instructor/Mentor and am an active member of our Haywood County Incident Management Team (HCIMT) performing Search & Rescue Operations with sUAS

  • Hve flown active SAR missions in NC, SC, and TN

  • Technical Specialist and Field Observer for HCIMT

  • On the roster with NC Emergency Services as sUAS Specialists ranking #003

  • Current member of NASAR (National Association of Search and Rescue)

  • Currently owns several sUAS that he flies for pleasure but for business he flies a Phantoms, Mavic, and a Yuneec H520 with THERMAL and RGB sensors

  • Currently does Construction Progression flights for various Commercial Construction companies in and around western North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina

  • Day Job as Director of Technology for a small local company in Waynesville, NC.
